I’ll be homeschooling my older boys for the foreseeable future and need some help on how to entertain a toddler at home! I’ve got a 12 and 10 year old as well as a feisty 3 year old. She’s all kinds of cuteness but terrible with entertaining herself (as most toddlers are!)
If you’re in a similar situation, I’m rounding up 15 of my favorite entertaining distractions for ages 2-4. Whether because of working at home or homeschooling other kids, they’re sure to help out!
Toddler Subscription Boxes
I reached out on Instagram for suggestions on how to entertain my daughter while homeschooling her older brother. So many people commented with so many great ideas but one of the constant suggestions was using toddler subscription boxes!
I was seriously shocked that I didn’t come up with that idea on my own. We subscribe to a number of box programs for the older kids but not for my 3 year old. I immediately got online and ordered a box from one of our favorite companies, KiwiCo!
In case you’re new to craft subscription boxes, the basic premise is that they usually send you a monthly box full of projects that are perfect for the age group you selected. My upper elementary-aged kids have loved the STEM focus of the Tinker Crate so I knew the Koala Crate would be amazing!
Unboxing the Koala Crate
One of my favorite things about KiwiCo is their meticulous attention to detail and the Koala Crate was no different! Our brightly-colored box held everything needed to complete three STEAM projects, a small magazine with activities and stories, and a parent’s guide. Everything was centered around the theme of rainbows which my daughter loved!
Since the box caters to the 3+ age group, all of the craft projects were simple enough for her to work on with my help. If you think that, since I’m a craft blogger, I would have all the supplies and tools to make similar projects…you’d be correct!
I may have an entire studio of craft supplies but this post is about easy ways to entertain toddlers. It doesn’t get easier than having a box show up on your doorstop!
Entertaining Toddlers with Koala Crate
The real question is “Can the Koala Crate help with entertaining my toddler while I get work done?” Definitely!
We opened up the box and reviewed the projects together. My daughter was immediately drawn to the rainbow pillow! I set my boys up with their science lesson and then worked with her for 20 minutes on making the pillow.
She then played with the pillow and some unicorn stuffed animals for an additional 45 minutes. It was the perfect amount of time to get the older kids’ literature done for the day!
We’ll be doing the projects over the next month with additional rainbow-themed projects that I’ll put together from the tutorials linked below. The perfect way to help me plan out activities for here!
