There’s nothing like the start of a new school year to remind you just how quickly your kids are growing up. (Cue the tears!) I made this Back To School Time Capsule to document just how much my kids change in the course of a few months. We absolutely love opening up our time capsules on the last day of school and checking just how much they’ve grown both physically and mentally. Hope you enjoy making this Back To School Time Capsule and have a wonderful school year!

Back To School Time Capsule
Supplies:
- Paint Can
- Free “Back To School Time Capsule” Printable
- Other objects you want to include (favorite small toy, candy, pictures, yarn, etc.)
- Double Sided Tape
Step 1. Print out the Free “Back To School Time Capsule” Printable and have your child fill in whichever questions he or she can answer. Older children will be able to fill them in completely while younger kids may need more help. If possible, I like having small children at least write their name so they can see just how much they’ve improved by the end of the year! Once completed, cut out all three panels from the printable (questions, portrait, and sealing strip.) Don’t forget to have them draw a self portrait!
Step 2. Add random other objects to their time capsule. Use a piece of yarn to document their height and throw that in the paint can. We took a few pictures of important parts of their life and added those as well. My boys thought it would be fun to add a little toy and candy to give their “future selves” for an End of Year surprise.
Step 3. Roll everything up and add it all to the paint can.
Step 4. Place some double-sided tape to the back of the sealing strip of paper and press over the paint can lid.
Step 5. Place your Back To School Time Capsule in a safe place until the last day of school when you and your kids can open it and marvel at how much they’ve changed!
Hope you have fun making your own Back To School Time Capsule and have a wonderful school year!
