I love all things Mid-Century Modern so it’s no surprise that I would eventually make some sort of art with it’s iconic chairs. This is a really simple project mostly because I’m crazy busy right now (more on that later!) but I think it’s simplicity works with the modern theme, right?
To make your own Modern Chairs Art, you can choose and download your favorite chair from the fabulous Curbly (you’ll have to like their FB page and then find the file in their Fan Downloads tab) or if you like the exact chairs I picked, you can grab my Modern Chair Art Silhouette File.
If you go the Curbly route, you’ll have to pull the images into Silhouette Studio and use the trace function to isolate the chairs (Silhouette pros, let me know if there’s an easier way!) Then just cut them out of your preferred color of cardstock (I used Jim Holtz’ Kraft-Core Collection), apply a thin layer of spray adhesive, and stick to piece of chipboard. Trim if necessary and frame! (I like how it looks in a floating picture frame but it’s also the only one I had available! :D)
And here is my Modern Chair Art next to my faux Lounger that my mom and sisters gave me for my 30th birthday. It’s been such an integral part of our lives for the last five years. I’ve labored, nursed, cried, laughed, slept in this chair. My lounger is pretty beat up and it needs to be reupholstered but I love it so. And now I have art to celebrate it! 🙂
What about you? Do you have an unusual attachment to a piece of furniture?

Droooool! What an amazing design, Vanessa. Now I can dream of owning the real thing, but enjoy looking at the stylish paper version! 😉 I think the simplicity is a perfect match for the design aesthetic of the chairs. Love how you let the glass be the mat.
Vanessa Brady says
Thanks, Mel! I was worried this project was too simple but the chairs are just so beautiful by themselves.

This is fun! I have a wing chair from my Aunt that I have slipcovered twice. It just has nice lines and It’s comfy.

Hey, simple is really refreshing! As someone who tends to overcomplicate things, I need the reminder that you don’t have to work for days on something in order for it to have a powerful impact. Thanks for the tips on the Curbly files…good to know…and I think it was you that inspired me to buy some spray adhesive for paper-crafts. It worked wonders on the scrapbook projects I recently tackled. Thanks!
