This Easy Sewing Machine Cover tutorial is sponsored by the lovely folks over at Expressions Vinyl.Do you have that one project that you’ve been procrastinating working on because, even though it’s super necessary, it’s really not that fun to make? That’s what this Sewing Machine Cover is to me! Every single time I pull out my sewing machine and have to clean a fine layer of dust off of it, I think to myself, “Girl, you need to make a cover!” Ok, that might be exaggerating a bit (I very rarely call myself, “girl”) but seriously, I’ve desperately needed a cover for years now and while I didn’t want to buy one, I kinda didn’t want to make one either. All that is behind me now and honestly, I’m not sure why I didn’t make one of these Super Easy Sewing Machine Covers earlier!

Shine On
Since I was finally making a cover, I figured I might as well make it super fun with some bright pink glitter! I mean, doesn’t that make everything 100x better? I got this super shiny and glitter-rific heat-transfer vinyl in Blush from Expressions Vinyl and knew it was going to look great against the simple b/w fabric I picked up at Ikea. I’m a huge fan of Expressions Vinyl and was so excited to be giving their glitter vinyl a go!
Easy Sewing Machine Cover
Materials
- fabric
- Glitter Heat-Transfer Vinyl
- Sewing Supplies
Step One. Measure the dimensions of your sewing machine at the widest and add a seam allowance to each side. Cut out 6 panels of fabric to match (4 sides, 2 tops).
Step Two. Cut the words out with a digital cutting machine (I love my Silhouette!). Make sure to remember to reverse the words and cut on the dull side of the glitter vinyl (setting: 4, 4, 18).
Step Three. Using a thin piece of fabric as a protective barrier, iron the glitter vinyl to front fabric panel.
Step Four. Optional: Create a handle slot so that you can carry your sewing machine with the cover on by sewing the two top fabric panels together just like the pictures below. You could also do tight zigzag stitch on a single piece of fabric if you like that better.
Step Five. Sew all the sides together first, using the seam allowance that you allotted for in Step One. This would be a perfect time to use a Serger but alas, I don’t have one so I’ll just use some pinking sheers along the edges to prevent fraying. You could always line this cover if you’ve got the time and desire!
Step Six. Turn the bottom raw edge under twice and iron to create a seam that can be easily finished with just a quick sew all the way around. Done and done!
