DIY Autumn Burlap Sign
- Natural Burlap Fabric Sheet
- Silhouette Interfacing: Clean Cut Fabric Interfacing
- Unfinished Wood Shadowbox: 8.5 x 11 x 1.75 inches
- Rusted Tin-Asst Maple Leaves
- Americana Acrylic Paint – Brown
- Autumn Art Free Printable
- Small Foam Gourd
Step One. Iron an 8.5 x 11 piece of the interfacing to the back of your burlap. Trim burlap to size.
Step Two. Carefully print the Autumn Art Free Printable on burlap sheet with your printer. This step is kinda nerve-wracking but as long as the interfacing is nice and secure around the entire piece of burlap, you shouldn’t have a problem with it jamming up your printer. (Disclaimer: I cannot be held responsible for any damage this tutorial does to your printer. I’ve done this tons of times and haven’t had a problem yet!)
Step Three. Depending on the color you want your frame, water down a bit of the brown acrylic paint, apply to the wood with a sponge brush, and wipe away quickly. You could also just use a stain but that’d be too easy, right?
Step Four. Remove the paper backing from the interfacing and iron the burlap art directly to the wood frame. I decided to use the back of the frame so getting into the corners was easy. If you can’t get it to stick or don’t have an iron small enough for your frame, you can also use some small chair upholstery nails in the corners. I actually did both because I like how the metal detail looks!
Step Five. Add some decorative detail to the top of your sign. I cut an inexpensive foam gourd from the dollar store in half and glued in place with a few metal leaves. Really anything Fall-themed would look great!
I love how simple and gorgeous this DIY Autumn Burlap Sign looks on my gallery wall behind my TV. It’s the perfect way to welcome the coming season! Hope you have fun with this tutorial and consider making one of your own!
