I love having JackJack just run around barefoot but now that it’s getting colder, he’s in desperate need for something that will keep his tootsies warm but also allow him to practice his mad stepping skills. He already has a nice blue bruise on his forehead from and unfortunate incident with socks and the floor.
I had been looking at some Robeez at Marshall’s but was hesitant to buy them since 1. they’re made out of leather and 2. even at a discount, I didn’t want to fork over the money for things he’ll grow out of in a couple months and 3. I could probably make some myself! I seriously wonder if I’m crafty because I’m cheap or if I’m cheap because I’m crafty. Chicken or the egg, I guess.
There are a million and a half tutorials online on how to make soft soled shoes. I like the one at Darling Diaper (PDF) because it comes in different sizes. Super easy instructions and nice pictures just in case you don’t read so well. I was able to finish sewing a pair and write this blog entry all during one of Jackson’s naps (granted it was one of those rare 2 hour naps!).
Can’t wait to try embellished booties next!
