I’m a huge fan of all the beautiful washi tape out there but a lot of the time, I find myself just hoarding it instead of actually using it. I wanted to figure out a way to make some sort of washi tape wall art without too much hassle or expense!
I also wanted to maintain the translucency of the tape. I know I could have just stuck the washi tape to white paper and then cut it out but I wanted the “look” of washi tape, which, for me, means it has to be translucent. I was more nervous cutting out this project than I was when I cut out my Montessori Sandpaper Letters! I didn’t want to waste all that beautiful washi tape if this project didn’t pan out…luckily it worked on the first try!
I used my Silhouette Cameo to easily cut out the words but you could definitely do this project with some patience and a sharp craft knife. The Clear Sticker Paper is pretty thick but allows you to place your work of art almost anywhere! I love the idea of using this tutorial to make decals for a kid’s room. A Washi Tape Millennium Falcon? Yes, please!
Washi Tape Stickers
Materials:
- Silhouette Clear Sticker Paper
- Washi Tape
- Free “My Happy Place” File (Studio, JPEG)
- Silhouette Cameo or Craft Knife
Instructions:
1. Cover one sheet of the Silhouette Clear Sticker Paper completely in washi tape.
2. Cut out shape or words with either a cutting machine (Cameo Settings: 1, 33, 6) or by hand with a craft knife.
3. Remove the backing from the letters and stick in place.
4. Repeat until entire saying or image is positioned correctly and enjoy!
I decided to hang my art in one of my favorite places…my craft nook! Where would you hang yours?

Okay this is lovely. Really lovely. I love the saying and thanks so much for the free cut file. Secondly I love your craft storage. Do you have a craft room tour? I would love to see how you have everything set up. I guess I am a sucker for pretty spaces and cute phrases. And yes I rhymed. It’s what I do. 🙂 Great project!

Glad you liked the project! I don’t have a craft room tour, mostly because I craft in my pantry! LOL. It would seriously take you five seconds to tour my craft area. 😀

That last photo in this sequence is a feast for my eyes. The colors. The organization. The artful arrangement. Had to pin it for inspiration.
Way to take a risk with this washi project and knock it out of the park. It really turned out so lovely…and I’m sure you can’t help but be whisked away to your happy place when you see that clipboard now.
Another INCREDIBLE project from you, Vanessa! Thanks for sharing your talents and ideas with us.
Warmly,

Awh, thanks, Lauren! I can’t believe how nervous I was at the thought of wasting all that washi tape, lol. Seriously, washi tape is like crafter’s crack. 😀

LOVE THIS! Could we feature this on thewashiblog.com? Just one picture, a blurb and a link back to your site? I’ve seen a lot of washi, but this is beyond! 😉
