My herbs arrived yesterday! They made my mailbox and entire house smell so beautiful. I bought them from Jen’s Enchanted Garden on Etsy which made things so easy. I just messaged her a list of the herbs I needed as well as quantities and she sent me back a quote on how much it would cost. It was all so reasonable, I threw in the necessary items for an herbal bug repellent as well!
As soon as I get some Sweet Almond Oil, I’ll get started with this recipe for Calendula Diaper Cream. Which also makes an amazing hand cream I’ve heard!
Last year I got an email on how to make an Herbal Bug Repellent while I was on some sort of natural pregnancy email list. I’ve had the email saved in my in-box for more then a year now. I tried to find the same recipe online but couldn’t find any sources so I’ll just post it here so that I can finally delete that email!
Herbal Bug Repellent
What you’ll need:
2 cups catnip, stemmed
1 cup dried peppermint
1 cup rosemary, cut into 6-inch sprigs
2 cups grape seed oil or almond oil
Directions:
Place herbs on a cutting board or counter, and lightly crush them with a rolling pin. Place them into a clean glass jar with a screw-on lid. Pour in the oil, seal the jar and place in a cool, dark cupboard for two weeks. Lightly shake the jar once a day for two weeks. Strain into a clean jar, seal and refrigerate (it will keep for up to 8 months). To use, rub on exposed skin.
*you could also mix a spray bottle with half infused oil and half witch hazel
I think there’s a crockpot infusion method that speeds up the time from 2 weeks to something like a few hours. I think I’ll give the crockpot a go, the mosquitos are killing us over here!
