I’m obviously a huge fan of the internet and social media (yay for blogs!) but, believe it or not, there is a good amount of my personal life that I keep very private. Don’t get me wrong, I love sharing the occasional crazy kid or family shot on social media outlets but I’m fairly certain you guys don’t want to see the 200 shots I took of my boys eating ice cream the other day. Call me crazy.
That’s why I was so super excited to try out a free photo sharing app called Seahorse! The idea is really easy. Let’s say, you and your family or friends experience an event together and, of course, each of you takes your own pictures. Seahorse gives you place to put all those shared memories but without the entire world watching. Super cool, right?
Chicago 2014
To give you an example of how the Seahorse app works, here are some pictures I took from a recent family trip to Chicago. My sister and her awesome family live up there so we visit fairly often to spend time with them and enjoy the great Windy City. As you can imagine, between my mom, husband, sister, and I, we took a crazy amount of pictures. Some of them we messaged to each other, some were printed out, but the majority remained unseen in each of our individual phones.
Not anymore, thanks to Seahorse! I was able to make a “Chicago 2014” scene (what they call each individual event folder in the app) and invite everyone who was there to add their own pictures. Images can be chosen from a variety of social media outlets, their phone photo stream, or even their computer. Yay, I finally have some pictures where I’m in the shot! Since all the pictures are uploaded at their original resolution, I can download pictures other family members took and still have a good quality pic.
More Fun Things
After the pictures have been uploaded, invited contributors can comment or “like” any of the pictures in the shared scene. Looking through the pictures and reading the comments totally made the memories come alive again! There’s also a “Magic” function that allows you to shake your phone for random images across scenes and a flashback mode that shows you pictures from today’s date in previous years. The level of time-wastage on this app is outstanding! (Although it’s not really “wasted” if it makes you happy, right?)
I highly suggest you download Seahorse if you’re looking how to share photos privately with your family and friends (iOS, Android). In fact, they’re offering 5 GB free photo storage space with the promo code “CLEVERHORSE.” What a nice seahorse, right?! (Offer good until October 31, 2014 and can only be used once.) Hope you have a great time sharing those memories!
