We took Jack to see Monsters University for his first trip to a movie theater! He loved every second of it and was seriously on the edge of his seat the entire time (mostly because he wasn’t heavy enough to hold it down in the back. lol) We’re huge fans of movies over here so it was kind of a big deal to take him. We really wanted the movie to be worthy of the event and Monsters University totally stepped up to the plate!
So, of course, I’m watching the movie and all I can think about is how I would go about making one of the monsters’ fraternity t-shirts for Jack (Yes, I think about crafting all the time…I know you all can relate). Making a Oozma Kappa t-shirt was the perfect opportunity to try out cutting wool felt with my lovely Silhouette!
Oozma Kappa T-Shirt
Materials:
- T-shirt
- Green & Yellow Wool Felt (I got mine at Jo-Ann’s)
- Silhouette Sewable Fabric Interfacing
- Oozma Kappa Studio File
- Silhouette Machine (or just convert the file and use a pair of sharp scissors to cut by hand)
1. Following instructions found in the package, iron the fabric interfacing onto the back of two small pieces of wool felt. Trim and remove backing paper to reveal shiny interface.
2. Place felt pieces onto cutting mat, making sure they’re in the proper place to cut out two sets of the letters.
3. Cut felt with Silhouette set to Speed: 3, Thickness: 33, Blade: 10, Double Cut. (Thanks to Cutesy Crafts for the settings!)
4. One set at a time, iron the letters into place.
5. Zig-zag stitch around the yellow letters to keep the design in place and voila! You are now officially an Oozma Kappa parent! 🙂
Click on the picture below to download the free Oozma Kappa Studio file. FYI: because it’s a Studio file, you won’t be able to preview the file before you download it but don’t worry, it’s there!

Gorgeous! The texture of that wool felt is amazing, especially after you stitched it. Gotta add this to the list of things to try!

This is so great! We have been reading ‘Monsters University’ as a bedtime book for weeks and just saw the movie this weekend. My little monsters will love this! Thanks!

Could your “little monster” be any cuter? I think not. 🙂 What a great project! And after seeing Jessica’s video tutorial on cutting felt with her Silhouette and now seeing yours, I’m really keen on trying that medium myself. Y’all make it look so easy.
(And yes, I totally think of crafts and blog posts ALL the time…#bloggerproblems.) 😉
Thanks for being such a faithful Silhouette Challenge participant, Vanessa!

Oh my. I LOVE this! Sewing AND the Silhouette?? Two of my very most favorite things. The t-shirt you made is spectacular and looks completely professional. I’m so glad to know you can cut wool with the Silhouette. I had NO idea. And really glad you shared the settings, too. I’m pinning this so I will remember later where I found it when I go back looking for it! So glad you shared in the Silhouette Challenge! I’ll bet your little guy loves his new t-shirt!
