    Modernizing The Craft Cottage

the-modern-craftroom-9-2One of my favorite things about crafting is the age-old connection I feel with previous generations of creators. As I thread my sewing needles and prepare to make or mend a project, I like to image men and women doing the exact same thing for centuries. There’s just something so uplifting and humbling about that realization. That’s not to say that I don’t like the modern conveniences available today and I’m super excited to be sharing some of my new favorite tech-savvy things with you!

Check out the awesome TP-Link coupon below!

the-modern-craftroomYou might be wondering why a craft room would need an TP-Link Smart Plug or TP-Link Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulb. Let me be the first to say just how handy they are! For example, let’s say you’re working on a project that involves both hands but you realize you could use a little more light (damn, my aging eyes!). I could put everything down and walk over to turn on a lamp OR could just ask Alexa on my Amazon Echo to switch it on for me.

What about the countless amount of times I’ve accidentally left on my iron or hot glue gun? Now I can either remotely turn off the plug with my phone (if I remember!) or just program the plug to always turn off at the end of the day. No more waking up in the middle of the night in a panic that my craft cottage is going to burn down!the-modern-craftroom-6

Super helpful, right? And set-up is a breeze! All you have to do is follow the simple steps in the free Kasa app and then you can easily control either the light, plug, or light switch. No need for a smart hub! Through Kasa, you can even control the bulb brightness and color as well. These TP-Link products also work with voice activation through Alexa (Amazon Echo, Tap, or Dot sold seperately). Perfect for when you’re hands are busy with paint, glue, or little kids!

Of course, since I spend all my money on craft supplies, these products have to be reasonably price or all this would be moot. Lucky for me (and my wallet!), both the TP-Link Smart Plug and TP-Link Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulb retail for $29.99. Visit TP-Link to learn more about their affordable, wifi-friendly line of Smart Home products, and use code TPLinkSmart for 20% off your purchase through 31 Dec 2016. Happy crafting!

Check out this video on how I used TP-Link in my craft room!

I have a seriously bad habit about leaving the iron on (probably because I don’t use it nearly enough, ha ha) but this would save those frantic calls home to check or coming home to an irritated hubby!!
