How’s everyone doing out there? I don’t know if it’s the new year or the weather but I’ve been in a bit of a funk lately. Nothing terrible, just your run-of-the-mill, blogger burnout. The holiday season (Halloween-Christmas) is totally fun and crazy as a parent but exhausting as a blogger. Here’s how I plan on working through this funk! Thank you to Pizza Hut for sponsoring this honest discussion on accepting and embracing my imperfections.
Reality of Blogging
As with most jobs, being a creative blogger comes with it’s ups and downs. Don’t get me wrong, I feel like I should pinch myself every single morning knowing that I get to make crafts, draw coloring pages, and work with awesome creative companies. Are you serious?! It’s an absolute dream making a living doing something you love. Like all jobs, though, the tough part is finding that balance between giving 100% to your profession and 100% to your personal life. I’ve been giving everything to my blog for the last few months and something had to give…
Feeling the Blah’s
So what’s a creative blogger to do when she isn’t feeling very creative? Go play. Go sit and do nothing. Go walk in the park. Go live life.
My work is inspired by the things that make me laugh so hard that my stomach hurts (like this picture of my son’s perfect snowball pitch to my face!), sayings that touch my heart and bring tears to my eyes, and moments that I wish I could capture forever. When my creative well runs dry, I know that the balance between work and play is off.
Imperfect Is The New Perfect
So, this year, I’m cutting myself a break.
There’s dog hair all over this freaking house? I’ve got two dogs with big hair and even bigger hearts. I’ll vacuum tomorrow.
I’ve got an endless list of projects I want to do with the house? That list isn’t going anywhere. The ones that make me happy will be crossed off eventually.
I wonder what the scale says today? Doesn’t matter. I exercise to stay healthy for myself and so I can keep up with my boys. The scale can never measure those things.
Take A Break
I officially give myself (and you!) permission to live life and take some breaks! Which means I’m perfectly okay with Pizza Hut covering my butt sometimes. Their new Flavor of Now menu is totally rocking it with 5 new toppings (including the yummy fresh spinach we ordered), 6 bold sauces, and 8 crust flavors (mmm, Siracha). My kids are fed and my sanity is intact. It’s a win/win for everyone!
Just in case you also need a break, here’s the link to order Pizza Hut online!
I made this print to help remind me of the beauty in imperfection and thought some of you might find it handy too. As always, thank you for giving me an outlet for my creativity and for being the best people to share this little slice of virtual space with!
