As I’m sure most of you can imagine, being a blogger can be a very solitary existence. Not necessarily a bad thing (I’m such a homebody!) but since most of my dealings are online, I rarely get to craft out and about in my lovely city. That’s why when Christmas Tree Market contacted me about donating a tree to a local nonprofit, I jumped at the opportunity to give back to my community!
The local non-profit I worked with was Project BRAVO, an agency devoted to providing basic resources that improve the quality of life for economically disadvantaged residents in El Paso, Texas. They offer assistance with things like affordable housing, weatherization, GED prep, patient assistance, and so much more. I was beyond thrilled to donate my “All Hearts Come Home” Christmas Tree to such a worthy cause!
Of course, I couldn’t have decorated the tree without the amazing people over at Consumer Crafts who donated all the ornament supplies. From gorgeous large rusted bells to glass ornaments of every size, Consumer Crafts was 100% responsible for every ornament you see on this tree! (A very special thank you goes out to my mom and grandmother for helping me set up!)
Some of the ornaments I was able to hang straight out of the box but I wanted a few handmade items to add that Tried & True touch. The Pinecone Ornaments were my absolute favorite and were easy to make! I just cut strips of thick brown felt with some pinking shears and hot glued them around the edge of a paper mache egg.
Here’s a video on Instagram of me making one! The only thing that was kinda tricky was making sure to crimp and fold the felt strip once I got close to the top of the egg. You don’t have to cover it completely because the last thing you’ll do is cut a small circle to more than fit the exposed space. Make a small incision in the center of the felt circle, insert a piece of twine, and glue in place. Would make a great gift topper too!
How cute is this house ornament? I got 6 Painted Tin Houses and wrote “Home Sweet Home” on the roofs with a white paint pen. Such an easy way to add large focal pieces to my “All Hearts Go Home” tree!
And last but not least, the Rusted Star Tree Topper! Thank you to Christmas Tree Market for donating the tree and Consumer Crafts the supplies. Your kindness and generosity will most definitely be appreciated by Project BRAVO this Christmas and many after!
